My business clients work mostly in IT and finances. Some needEnglish for sales or negotiations but most want simply to be comfortable talking with their foreign colleagues. For those who need it I also do proofreading and rewriting for business proposals, websites, and CVs.I have worked proofreading monthly Ukrainian reports for USAID, so you may rest assured that my abilities in this regard are second-to-none.
I studied economics at the University of Delaware before changingmy major to Global Affairs so I know a lot about economic terminology, business trends, and trade law. My father worked for IBM and my mother worked for Xerox before starting in their own businesses. As a teenager I heard stories about the lives of Rockefeller, Edison, Carnegie and Ford.I have a lifelong interest in business and politics so I read The New York Times and The Economist and I listen to NPR and Planet Money daily. I use transcripts from the latter as learning materials, and I can find stories about subjects of particular interest to you if you wish.
“Business English” is basically just formal written English without the idioms and phrasal verbs used in spoken language. It can include ideas unique to business:marketfundamentals, corporate alignment, learning curve, agile development, amortization, etc., but I cover this terminology only if a client needs it. My goal is to keep help you speak with other business people in a way that can relate to as well as to keep you up to date on the every aspect of the changing world around you.
